Riverside Guesthouse - Towns in Northumberland - Ten Days Out

Each of the following recommended towns has the facilities for a full day's visit, including shops, pubs, restaurants and public transport links. 
Each is within easy driving distance of Morpeth, not much more than an hour away at most.

Newcastle upon Tyne:

Isn't really in Northumberland, but it is the region's capital, providing all the facilities of a major provincial city. It's only 20 minutes away, so is ideal for an evening out.

Alnwick:

Market town, 30 minutes away. Visit Alnwick Garden and Alnwick Castle.

Bamburgh:

Bamburgh is a tiny village, but it has the most spectacular castle in England. Makes a good joint trip with Seahouses. About an hour's drive

Berwick upon Tweed:

Border town (only 3 miles to Scotland), 1 hour's drive. Famous for its Elizabethan walls, coast and river walks, stunning views.

Blyth:

Only 20 minutes drive, Blyth is rich in industrial heritage. Port and harbour, beach. Wind farm with offshore turbines.

Haltwhistle:

Smaller market town, about 75minutes away. Stunning views of the South Tyne valley, and great access to the Roman Wall

Hexham:

Hexham lies in the stunningly beautiful Tyne Valley, about 1 hour's drive away. Market town with Abbey, convenient for the Roman Wall

Our own market town, so you can walk it! Award winning park, riverside walks and the Chantry craft centre and Bagpipe Museum

Small market town set deep in the hills of Northumberland. About 45 minutes drive. Visit Cragside House (NT)

Seahouses:

About an hour's drive will take you to the mini-resort of Seahouses. Boat trips to the Farne Islands, fishing harbour.

Wooler:

Wooler is s small market town within an hour's drive. It nestles at the foot of the Cheviot hills and is a great centre for hill walking.
